My journey to Coonoor was a result of a very spontaneous decision. Thanks to the various airline flash sales, I found an amazing deal for flights to Coimbatore. Although I didn't know anything about Coimbatore at that time, I knew that beauty is never hard to find wherever you go. So I booked my tickets, did some research and made my way to Coonoor - the land of lush tea estates.
I arrived in Coonoor on a fresh, rainy day. My first stop on this journey was an eco-resort nestled deep in the heart of the Nilgiris – Kurumba Village Resort. It is located 15 kilometers before Coonoor and it's entrance is through a narrow lane cutting right through the forest. From the minute you exit the main road and take that turn, your Kurumba jungle experience begins. The scent of fresh vanilla and nutmeg fills the air and you feel one with the majestic Nilgiris around you!
Once I reached the resort, the helpful staff led me to my room for the next 3 days – the luxurious Jacuzzi suite. A plush four-poster bed, a living room with wifi and television, a nice balcony and of course the grand jacuzzi...in other words 'pure bliss' :)
I'll let these pictures give you a look into the next three days at Kurumba
Before I knew it, my time at Kurumba was over and new places beckoned. I bid adieu to the beautiful resort and made my way deep into the tea plantations of Coonoor.
My home for the next few days was a charming cottage on a tea estate that produces some of the finest teas in the world. The best part of the house was the living room - an airy space with huge glass windows and spectacular views of rolling tea plantations.
My hosts at the estate were extremely kind and hospitable and ensured that I got a real taste of Coonoor life during my stay.
While most of my adventures take me to far away places, I never let go of an opportunity to explore whats near and close to me. Last month, an opportunity like that came calling and the next day I set out to explore two magical bungalows in Lonavala.
Although Lonavala is one of the most popular weekend destination for Mumbai and Pune dwellers, it still holds its own hidden secrets. Through my travels, I have come to realise that no matter how touristy or commercialised a place may be, it will definitely have its charming, secret elements.
Over three days, I explored two beautiful and quaint bungalows in Lonavala. Both houses are ideal for small groups of friends and families looking for scenic surroundings and a space to spend some quiet, quality time together.
