Located in the Kumaon Himalayas, Shyamkhet is a small town near Bhowali in Uttarakhand. Amidst this little town, is a boutique home, perched in the hills, offering warm hospitality and fresh mountain air to its travellers.

ABOUT THE STAY

Owned by Uttam and Shalini Dave, a sweet couple from Delhi, the house is a beautiful space full of flowering gardens, lush greenery, warm and cosy rooms and a breathtaking glass observatory, where travellers can sit back and enjoy lush green views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

The location of the house is just perfect, far enough from the maddening crowds of Nainital and Mukhteshwar and other popular towns, but close enough by road if you want some buzz and activity during your time in the mountains.

THE ROOMS

The house has 3 rooms in the main house and 2 rooms in the outhouse. Each room is simply decorated with a very charming and aesthetically pleasing feel. Wooden floors and ceilings, glass windows, subtle lighting and balconies offering lovely views of the surrounding mountains.

The two rooms that I loved in the house were the glass observatory and the study overlooking the bird feeders. Both rooms are beautifully and carefully designed, full of beautiful flowers and interesting curious collected by the owners from their travels around India and all around the world.

THE CREW

The house has three crew members, all working towards ensuring your stay is a memorable one. While Prakash cooks up some delicious food for you, Basant and his wife Madhavi ensure you have anything that you need. They work hard to ensure that all is kept clean and tidy and that the gardens remain full of flowers and lush greenery for you!

The three dogs at the property are a crucial part of the team - Rajah, Cyber and Lama. From the moment you enter the house to the time you leave, they greet all their travellers daily with so much love and warmth and expect a biscuit each for being such good boys!

For travellers looking for a nice cup of coffee and a beautiful setting, there are a few amazing cafes located 30 mins - 1 hour by road where you could spend hours sipping on some yummy coffee and just watching life passing by.

For the quiet traveller, sit back and relax in the observeotry with a book or your journal. Head up to the study from where you can see the bird feeder where beautiful birds comes daily. Or light up a fire and watch the star-studded sky!
